A Little About The Author

I’m Erica, and despite priding myself on my writing, I don’t fit neatly into my own text box.

I’ve been writing on the internet since 2011, when I was a Comparative Literature major at Princeton trying to legitimize the value of niche-seeming major to herself and her family. Since then, I’ve tried to make that degree and my words count.

I’ve always written best when I write about experiences in my life, people I admire, or things I find fascinating. These days, my work tends to revolve around the worlds of technology, sports, writing, and what it means to grow —and grow up.

I’m the kind of girl who still defaults to her professional profile to explain who she is and what she does, but who has also taken a few risks and a few roads less traveled to know she’s more than the line items on her resume.

The most important thing you should know about me is that I care deeply about continuous improvement, whether it’s as a product manager, a writer, or athlete. I am constantly fighting to bring out my best—in professional projects, in my personal creative work and in my performances on the mat. This is the key throughline of my life.

I’m a Jersey Girl by birth, a longtime Bostonian, and recent transplant to Atlanta. Much as I wanted a happily-ever-after on the West Coast, everything brings me back to the Beast Coast.

What is The Submission Artist?

The Submission Artist is a publication from Erica Zendell that is a catchall of her thoughts and writing at the crossroads of creativity and sports.

What started as a biweekly newsletter with curated content recommendations worth the read, listen, or watch, usually in the realm of arts and athletics, has turned into more interviews of inspiring figures and sports journalistically-inclined work.

Sometimes, she writes longer-form pieces on the subjects of coming of age, continuous improvement, and what it means to craft a fulfilling life—in addition to whatever she finds fascinating of late.

Posts sometimes include at least one picture of a daschund. She owns two:
